Getting Organized with Ikea
Thursday, July 08, 2010
Now that I am on summer vacation, I feel an overwhelming desire to bring some order to the chaos that is my home. I have several areas in the house designated to store random things or hide piles of unorganized miscellaneous items before guests arrive. It's now taken on a life of it's own, just like the tiny shadow that grows into an enormous monster in Robert Munsch's The Dark.
Enough is enough, I told myself. It's time to stop procrastinating and get off my lazy arse. So off to Ikea I went with my eldest in tow. I haven't been there in about a year so I mainly went to gather ideas but I did pick up a Skubb organizer with two large stylish Mälla boxes and a couple of smaller ones in a 2-pack. Here's a tip for storing your family footwear: you can store adult shoes in the big boxes and kid shoes in the smaller ones. I put the kids' shoes on the lower tiers so the kids can help themselves. I also bought two matching boxes with lids to place on the shelf above, one for summer hats and caps, the other for winter items. It came to about $70 in total but I really love how it looks. Not too shabby, eh?

These are very nice! I need to follow your example and do the same!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Amy! I have some other ideas and if I get a chance, I'd like to post those, too. I also picked up a really cute table and two matching chairs for the kids made of solid wood. The table is circular and has two shelves perfect for storing art supplies.

How lovely! I desire organization too, but haven't managed to achieve it yet! lol...
ReplyDeleteThanks, ladies! I still have much more organizing to do. Though sometimes, I'd rather read about it on other blogs. (;
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IKEA! However, I can spend my whole little teacher paycheck in one stop. It helps to take chidren along to distract me from buying everything I see. :) Happy Friday! Following now.
ReplyDeleteIkea is great! Now if I could just get my teacher supplies organized!
ReplyDeleteCara, once you figure out how, let me know. I've got my stuff all over the place!
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking the time to leave a comment here on Toronto Teacher Mom. Hope you have a great day!
