FYI - Gnomeo and Juliet - In Theatres February 11

Wednesday, February 09, 2011

Ever wonder what it's like to live as a gnome, bound to spend countless years within the confines of a garden? Now imagine you were raised your entire life to despise other gnomes simply because their hats were a different colour than your own. Seems a bit ridiculous, doesn't it? Inconceivable, even. To think one could pass judgement on another based on the size or colour of one's... hat. This Friday, February 11, you can head to a theatre near you to watch the battle between the Reds and the Blues, two neighbouring gnome families who simply do not get along. That is, of course, with the exception of Gnomeo and Juliet.

Starring James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Michael Caine, Jason Statham, Maggie Smith, Patrick Stewart, Ozzy Osbourne, Dolly Parton, and yes, Hulk Hogan, Gnomeo and Juliet also features classic music by Elton John. From Shrek 2 director Kelly Asbury, this movie is sure to be a hit.

Synopsis:

The greatest love story ever told, starring...garden gnomes? In Gnomeo & Juliet, Shakespeare's revered tale gets a comical, off-the-wall makeover. Directed by Kelly Asbury (co-director of "Shrek 2") and showcasing both classic and original songs by Elton John, the film features the voices of James McAvoy and Emily Blunt as Gnomeo and Juliet, who have as many obstacles to overcome as their quasi namesakes when they are caught up in a feud between neighbors. But with plastic pink flamingos and thrilling lawnmower races in the mix, can this young couple find a happy ending?
And if you haven't seen the trailer yet, I've included a clip below. You can also find additional video on the Gnomeo and Juliet website, along with games and activities for the kids.
