Send Your Kids off to Camp with a Brighter Smile!
Friday, June 17, 2011
Yesterday afternoon, while at the park with some friends who just moved on to our street, we realized there are only nine days of school left. Yes, that's it! This means it's almost time for my daughter to attend her first summer camp. She'll be away during the morning only for one week in July and full days for one week in August. My husband wanted to sign her up for more but that's about as long as I can handle. And thankfully, she won't be spending the nights away. In fact, the day camp is so close, I can walk her there. I can't imagine what it would be like sending her off to a sleep-away camp. It would be hard to let go of the reigns and trust that she would wash behind her ears, brush her teeth twice a day and eat her veggies.
ARM & HAMMER® has taken out some of the worry by making brushing teeth fun! With the new ARM & HAMMER® Spinbrush® My Way!® for boys and girls, kids can have fun personalizing their own brush with fun designs and letter stickers. Adding a little sparkle or a fire engine red race car to any kids brush helps it become more of a fun to-do and less of a dull chore – and will ensure brushes won’t get mixed up with other campers! My kids love the ARM & HAMMER® My Way! ® battery-powered toothbrush for girls and boys. This customizable battery-powered toothbrush not only promotes brushing by making it fun, it helps to remove plaque while massaging the gum. The smaller brush head is suited for smaller mouths and is easy for little hands to operate. My favourite feature is the ability to customize the Spinbrush handle with a large variety of stickers that are included in each pack. And what kid doesn't love stickers, right? As a French teacher, I also appreciate that the Sprinbrush À Moi also includes accents. C'est très utile pour ceux dont leur nom contient des accents comme, par exemple, Émilie.
Spinbrush® My Way!® battery-powered toothbrush features (Includes 6 sheets of stickers for decorating fun)
- For the girls, stickers cover fun themes including animals, girl power symbols and letters to spell out names.
- For boys, the stickers cover all the stuff a boy might love from wild animals to fast cars, futuristic characters, skateboards and sports.
- Designed for kids from 3 to 8 years of age (children under 3 can use under adult supervision)
Simple to operate in three easy steps:
- Press and hold to turn on or press and slide up for continuous action
- Brush like normal
- Rinse toothbrush head thoroughly after each use and shake off well
Available at drugstores and mass retailers across Canada (MSRP $7.99).

ReplyDeleteMy son hasn't gone to a sleep-over or over-night camp yet, so I haven't had to deal with this yet. But brushing his teeth before bed is such an ingrained habit now, that I think he'll do it.

My son hasnt went to a summer sleepover camp but slept over to friends house many times. I always make sure to remind him to pack his toothbrush and toothpaste several times before he goes, and also remind him later on that night if I am talking to him.

I usually reminded my kids when they were little many times before they went and often, if I talked with them on the phone before they went to bed, I would ask if they had brushed them!
ReplyDeleteI know my daughters are now facing this with their children!

I am never totally sure if good brushing habits take place when my daughter goes away. I hope and pray that the supervisors enforce it (in a kind way)

There's no really way for me to ensure that good brushing habits are occuring if I'm not there unfortunately. All you can do is teach they properly and hope for the best!! Quite frankly, I'm happy if he changes his clothes:)

I always pack her toothbrush and toothpaste and make sure to put on the very top of her bag so when she goes to get her pyjamas she is reminded.

I don't have children of my own, but speaking with my best friend (whose children I have known since birth and who I spend A LOT of time with), there is no good way to ensure they will keep up when they are not at home - it is a matter of instilling this good habits at HOME and hoping they follow through!

Its easy for me when they go on sleep overs. I just have to tell them before they leave that its in their bag. They have never had a cavity or filling. And they are 13,9, and 8 years old. Their teeth are actually one thing that they are diligent with. Thank God.

When my kids went to a sleep over or for things like band camp I would just send them with a little tube of toothpaste and a travel toothbrush. It was never a big deal as they wanted good teeth and no cavities so they just brushed on their own.

Gah!!! I can't even imagine a sleepover for my near-4 year old. I can barely work up the nerve to leave her with a babysitter. Actually I've only done that once (can you say clingy mom?!). But for making sure she follows our rules, we have a set schedule and my daughter thrives on following the bedtime steps.

I have not sent my little girl to camp yet...only sleep-over at her grandparents house. We have trained her not to go to bed without brushing her teeth and to brush her teeth after eating. So, it's not so much of a problem for me.
