FYI: Canadian Schools Can Win a $20,000 Outdoor Classroom!

Wednesday, July 13, 2011

Learning in outdoor classrooms can benefit children. In fact, studies suggest that it can improve social interactions and lead to higher scores on standardized tests, all the while helping to foster an environmental ethic. That’s why MAJESTA has launched its Trees of Knowledge™ program, a nation-wide contest for Canadian schools, where they have the chance to win an outdoor classroom. Valued at $20,000, the prize can include things like topsoil, boulders/furniture (large rocks, logs/stumps), trees, shrubs, or planters depending on the winning school’s proposal.

The school where I work has been trying to obtain funding for an outdoor classroom for the past couple of weeks. We are just finalizing our application and are really excited about this wonderful opportunity from Majesta. Please note that the contest is open to all Canadian schools and the deadline for applications is August 12, 2011. Good luck!
