Stella and Sam Now Available on DVD
Wednesday, April 18, 2012
Remember a few years ago I did a couple of book readings of Stella and Sam by Marie-Louise Gay in my hometown of Hamilton? It was all part of the Playhouse Disney Traveling Birthday Bonanza that brought activities and games to a mall near you. It was such an enjoyable experience reading her book to the children while they looked at the pictures up on the big screen. I find it's always fun to read picture books to kids, but it's a lot more fun to read great picture books that are mesmerizing and whimsical. Add a bit of Disney magic and you've got a television series that is not only imaginative but educational, too. That is why I am so excited to announce that Stella and Sam is now available on DVD!
Distributed exclusively in Canada by Entertainment One, the Stella and Sam: Follow Me! DVD is undeniably a definite must-have for your preschool library. Even if your child is older, he or she will surely love it. My daughter is in grade 1 and thoroughly enjoyed the DVD. Her favourite episode is entitled "Fred's Bath" in which a muddy Fred needs to get cleaned up but doesn't like bath time. She found it particularly amusing since my mother-in-law owns a rather rambunctious puppy and she can relate to how difficult it must be to give her a bath.
I find Stella and Sam to be very endearing and oh, so cute. I could watch the DVD with my kids all afternoon if I had to. Wait. I take that back. I could watch it on my own! Sam's voice is so adorable and I love Stella's sense of adventure. And I can't get enough of the theme song, which is rare. If I had to pick a favourite episode, I'd say "Meadow Melody" has to be it. Also included on the DVD are four additional episodes: "Box Builders," "Follow Me!" "Where's Pattycake?" and "Stella's Circus" as well as two bonus episodes: "Sam and the Snowman" and "Skippy and Sam."
Last year, I missed out on a chance to watch a live studio recording of an episode with Rachel Marcus, who plays Stella, and Miles Johnson, who plays Sam. It was during the day, when I teach, so sadly I couldn't be there. That's why I'm grateful for this behind-the-scenes video. Aren't Rachel and Miles so utterly loveable?
Pour vous les francophones, vous pouvez regarder la version française de Stella et Sacha: Suivez-moi! I recommend the French version, also included on the DVD, even if your kids aren't native French speakers. The characters generally speak slow enough that your little ones will be able to pick up some of the vocabulary. Go ahead. Try it out in French!
What? You don't own a copy of Stella and Sam yet? Well... you're in luck. eOne has graciously offered a copy of the DVD to one of my Canadian readers. There's more. They are also throwing in a copy of Dino Dan which was also released on DVD last week as well. Awesome? I know! So come, follow me and enter using the Rafflecopter form below.
