#SupportHER High Tea Event at The King Edward Hotel
Sunday, April 19, 2015
A little over a week ago, I attended the #SupportHER high tea event hosted by Listen to Lena at The King Edward Hotel. It was my first time at the beautiful hotel and the high tea experience was simply divine. As much as I enjoyed the food and the tea, the real reason for us being there was to learn how to be there for women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, how to be a #SupportHER in their time of need.
I was invited to bring a guest with me and so I chose my mother-in-law who would drop everything in an instant if I ever I need her help. It was nice to be able to treat her to high tea, though she deserves a heck of a lot more than that.
Following the tea service, we listened to Dr. Christine Brezden-Masley share an overview on breast cancer statistics as well as tips on what to consider when offering help to someone who has received a breast cancer diagnosis.
She suggests you start by asking them if any of these might be helpful:
- Be a note-taker during her appointments.
- Provide the contact information of people you know who have been in similar situations and who would be willing to share their experience.
- Ask before you bring food in case it isn't needed.
- Don't be shy to call. Chances are you'll get the answer machine and you can leave a message.
At the end, we listened to one of Dr. Brezden-Masley's breast cancer patients who shared her experience and advice as well.
