Man With a Plan - New This Fall on Global
Wednesday, October 12, 2016
As most teachers will agree, summer is the best season ever! Not only do we have the good fortune of having two months off work but we get to spend more time with the family. Those of us with kids look forward to catering to their every need, cleaning up after them, tending to bumps and scratches, mediating arguments between siblings, making sure dinner is on the table, the kids are bathed, the beds are made, the bills are paid... You get the picture? Sometimes I wonder if my husband thinks that the kids are always perfect angels and that birds tweet their songs Ć la Mary Poppins all day long. Because, really... parenting is easy, isn't it?
No, it isn't always easy. Which is why a part of me looks forward to the fall and returning back to work so I can feel a bit more 'normal.' Plus, it means my husband gets a little taste of what single-parenting is like on select evenings such as curriculum night or parent-teacher interviews when he has to watch the kids on his own. I can only imagine what goes on. Do you have your own stories to share? To celebrate the launch of Man With a Plan, you are invited to share your most favourite or funniest story of dad taking care of the kids while mom is out by leaving a comment on this post. Then complete the Rafflecopter form below for a chance to win a package of four 2017 season passes to Canada's Wonderland for you and your family to enjoy. Contest is open to residents of Ontario. A funny story I remember of my dad taking care of us as kids was the time he tried to make perogies for dinner. My mom always boiled them first and then pan-fried them with some bacon. I guess my dad only ever noticed my mom pan frying them, so he pan fried frozen perogies for us for dinner. Needless to say it didnt work out so well, they were frozen on the inside still!!
ReplyDeleteMy Dad doing my hair in pigtails before school picture day. Poor guy had such a hard time, and they weren't the best looking braids, but he did it for me.
ReplyDeleteOur stories usually involve cake, cookies or ice cream for dinner. My husband is the perfect ying to my yang and The Kids are happy so that's the most important part.

When mom is out, kids usually ask dad for ice cream dinner, or toy shopping, or a 'quick' trip to centerville! This is why I can't leave them alone ever!!!! :)
ReplyDeletemy hubby trying to use a pad as a diaper..true story...rafflecopter charityk
ReplyDeleteIce cream for breakfast!!!
ReplyDeletewhen my son was maybe 18 months I went out for the afternoon and came home to Thomas the Train tracks down my hallway from the front door to the livingroom and my husband passed out on the couch and my son hitting beside his head legs draped over his face watching the weather network. I took a picture because it was amazing.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Dad story is him making us bbq for supper and the bbq starting on fire.
ReplyDeleteWhen I had my second child He was 9lb.8oz. and a tough birth. It was my first time being away from my daughter. She had hair down to her waist. I always kept her hair done in french braids or some nice style. When my hubby brought her to the hospital to visit her hair was a mess wit a barette at her temple and one at her ear. I got so upset trying to hold in the tears while doing her hair. LOL Then he tells me he took her to his parents for dinner and they had pigeon stew. That was it. I was packing and ready to go home. LOL
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dad story is when my dad used to cook dinner for us when my mom went to work. It usually didn't turn out so great and then he would order out.
ReplyDeleteMy mom had my grandfather babysit me when I was 5, while she was out I went into her closet and wore her heels, as I was skipping to the fridge for a glass of milk I tripped and split my chin open, my grandfather freaked out, drove me to the hospital where my mom met us for stitches.. he all of a sudden disappeared, we later tracked him down in Newfoundland, he had hopped on a flight straight from the hospital to the airport in fear my mom was going to kill him bahahaha
ReplyDeleteWhen my husband watches the kids usually they get way too much junk food and get to play video games
ReplyDeleteI remember my dad always cooked on the weekends and made the same boiled pasta and ham dish every week.
ReplyDeleteI remember my dad saying "Your mother will shoot me when she gets home" about things like not getting us into bed on time. I always thought it was funny. ;)
ReplyDeleteCame home from work today to find a trail of shredded cheese from the fridge to the couch to find out my son had eaten the bag, daddy had no clue lol
ReplyDeleteMy hubby changed our youngest sons diaper with a tea towel pinned around his nose and mouth.
ReplyDeleteLOL My sons father had his diaper on backwards when I went out for a bit one time. LOL
ReplyDeleteWhen our eldest was a baby and my husband was looking after him one afternoon he needed to change our son's diaper. Later that day I noticed several shirts and sleepers in the hamper. Apparently my husband took so long to get the new diaper on (and didn't cover certain parts) my son had peed several times and wet his shirt and sleepers....lol.
ReplyDeleteMy dad tried being chef for a day but it didn't go so well. Everything was so burnt, we had to order pizza.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little, my mom went out and may dad stayed home to watch me. He fell asleep on the couch and I drew all over the walls with marker. My mom was so mad!

My funniest moment would have to be when my husband watched the kids for the afternoon. I came home to toilet paper all over the living room because my hubby fell asleep and the dog got into a brand new pack of toilet paper. The kids thought the dog was hungry so, they put food all over the floor for the dog as well..
ReplyDeleteMy daughter loves playing doll house so when my hubby had to watched her on his own a few months ago he had not idea how to "play" so all the dolls were napping! lol
ReplyDeleteMine is a poopsplosion story - The exersaucer in our house was lovingly refered to as the poopersaucer. While watching our oldest daughter, my hubby had to deal with a poopsplosion up the back of her sleeper out the top and into her hair while in the exersaucer.
ReplyDeleteI remember a time when my Dad was in charge of making my school lunch. Once he forgot to pack my sandwich but didn't forget to pack cookies.
ReplyDeleteI remember one time when my mom went on vacation & my dad had to watch me and my 2 sisters. I think that he was afraid that he couldn't entertain us like our mother but he did great, he went out of his way to make sure we were well taken care of, fed, washed and everything else
ReplyDeleteIt was Halloween, the pumpkin candle was lit. The pumpkin candle was never put out, it burned the pumpkin.
ReplyDeleteDad was using the vacuum cleaner hose to put pony tails on the girls.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was younger I decided to cut my own hair, and then my Dad tried to fix it. Needless to say, we both failed :)
ReplyDeleteThe funniest story of dad taking care of the kid when he had to change diapers but was sick & dizzy after doing it.
ReplyDeleteWhen hubby was home alone with the kids as toddlers and had to dress them, I'd always be amazed by the weird outfits he chose.
ReplyDeleteWould have to be a diaper changing episode, let's just say it involved a diaper being put on backwards (not on snug enough), falling off and a well time baby poop! (Judy Cowan)
ReplyDeleteHubby used to to change our kids' diapers with rubber gloves and a nose pin!! He even had a special "diaper changing apron" to wear. LOL
ReplyDeleteMy favourite memory is of me running out to get milk, gone maybe 10 minutes, and I come home to my hubs fully made up with his hair done, lipstick on, and wearing on of our girls tutus!
ReplyDeleteI would have to say my dad changing my brothers diaper when he was a baby lol. I know babies go to the bathroom A LOT but my brother had a lot of poop accidents and watching him struggle made me laugh. He managed to get my brother all clean and the diaper on ... most of the time not very well which led to many accidents lol
ReplyDeleteMy dad thought skateboarding was easy and decided to go on it but ended up falling to the ground
ReplyDeleteWhen I was younger my dad always brought me home a candy bar but my mom did not like that so he would sneak it to me. And my mom always got upset so my dad had to always hide it on me and we had a fun time finding it together
ReplyDeleteMy uncle fell asleep & the kids drew on him. Not very exciting but it was funny to see the pics!
ReplyDeleteIt's not a "funny" story but we laugh at it now. When we were younger my Mom was in the hospital with her spleen. My Dad decided he was going to get us to eat better. He made us brussel sprouts and forced us to sit at the table until we finished them. Needless to say we slept at the table that night with lots of tears. We couldn't wait for Mom to come home :)
ReplyDeleteFunniest story of dad taking care of the kids while mom is out.- When my sister would cry my dad would hang her from the shower curtain until she stopped crying :)lol funny now.
ReplyDeleteMy dad did a lot of dancing around the house with us while mom was out.

I came home from grocery shopping to find my sons father puking in the bathroom and a half changed diaper on my son. Funniest thing ever.
ReplyDeleteI found out our daughter cleaned the house with orange juice. Hubby thought nothing of it, because my usual all purpose cleaner smelled like orange. I can laugh now!
